Professional experience

Antonio Paronesso was born in 1958 in Pontinia, in the province of Latina, Italy. In 1986, he graduated with honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Rome La Sapienza with a thesis entitled 'Non-linear Dynamic Analysis of Structures with Degradation', performed at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering's Theory of Structures Chair.

 


After a brief period working for E.D.IN in Rome and freelancing in Pontinia, he moved to Lausanne in 1989 where he began a research activity at the Laboratory of Hydraulic Constructions of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, financed by the Swiss National Research Fund and the Division for Dam Safety of the Swiss Federal Office of Water Resources.

 


In 1997, he obtained his doctorate in Technical Sciences with a thesis entitled 'Rational approximation and realisation of generalised force-displacement relationship of an unbounded medium'.

 


The same year he moved to Ticino, where he began a new work experience at the Passera & Pedretti engineering office in Grancia, as project leader and head of the applied research, geotechnical and spatial structures sectors.

 


Since 2004 he has been teaching the Particular Structures course at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland.

 

In 2007, engineer Antonio Paronesso founded AR&PA Engineering in Pregassona together with engineer Roberto Artari.

Some projects

Among the most successful works bearing the signature of engineer Paronesso are:


  • the pneumatic steel ring roof with bipyramidal modules of the World Cycling Centre in Aigle for UCI;
  • the steel structure of the Yverdon Cloud for Expo.02;
  • the Torretta cycle-pedestrian footbridge for the Canton Ticino's Department of Territory.
  • the Via dei Papi footbridge for the municipality of Sorgues in France
